Directors & Officers

 

 

Our Board of Directors is comprised of self-advocates, family members of people with developmental disabilities, and professionals.  We meet on the third Tuesday of every month at 4:00.  You are always welcome to join our gathering, which is usually held at the North Bend Public Library.

 

Allen Babcock.   Founding Board member and self advocate.  Allen is a long-time and very active member of the Oregon AMVETS of Coos Bay (which is dedicated to providing service to veterans of all wars) as well as a participant in Special Olympics bowling.  For a number of years Allen was his mother’s primary caregiver.

 

Linda Celentano.   Board member and sponsor of individual with developmental disabilities.  Check back with us in the next week or so when we’ll have more information about this extraordinary lady. 

 

Loretta Hafen.   This newly-recruited Board member is the sponsor of an individual with developmental disabilities.  Loretta recently retired after a 25 year career as a nurse in the Coos Bay area and is now a full time volunteer.  When not pursuing her hobbies of ham radio, photography and crafts, you’ll find her involved with her 5 children, 15 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, 1 dog and 1 cat.

 

Susan Magill.   Board Secretary, Board member for 7 years, and selfadvocate.  Susan is active in the community, volunteering in different capacities at the Kingsview Christian School (particularly in the first grade), the Pelican Harbor Food Bank when school is not in session, and the Open People Project sponsored by SORB (Southern Oregon Regional Brokerage).  

 

Sharon Smith.   One of our newest Board members, Sharon was born and raised on the Oregon coast and has recently retired from South Coast ESD after 26+ years working with special needs families. During this time she was on the Community Connections Network team which is an outreach clinic of OHSU and serves children and youth with complicated health needs. She’s donated many hours working in the community through Relay for Life, Ready to Smile dental consortium, several state and local service agencies serving women and children. Sharon has 2 grown daughters and 1 grandson to spoil, as well as several grand-dogs.  

 

Christina Waller.   Board Chairperson, founding Board member, and sponsor of an individual with developmental disabilities.  Christina holds a BS in Multidisciplinary Studies as well as a Master’s in Education, and has been an Early Childhood Special Education teacher since 2006. She’s active in Special Olympics as a swim and track coach, and is experienced with animal husbandry and organic farming. 

 

Frances Williams.   Past Treasurer, Board member for 7 years and sponsor of an individual with developmental disabilities.  Frances is a Customer Service Representative at Fred Meyer, where she will celebrate her 20th year of employment in 2013.  She’s active in Special Olympics and the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life.
